The 14 Best Title Cards From Batman: the Animated Series

Lately, I’ve been re-watching Batman: The Animated Series while I work, and I’ve spent more than a few minutes just marveling at the amazing title cards that kicked off each episode. Stylish and distinctive, they were sadly cast by the wayside with the redesign for The New Batman Adventures, but while they were used, they were one of the best elements of a show that was already pretty visually striking.

That’s why today, I’ve rounded up my 14 favorites, today at ComicsAlliance! So take a few minutes to check out some fantastic art this afternoon. You ain’t workin’ anyway!

Lord Death Man Gets Resurrected For Batman, Inc!

For those of you who haven’t seen the solicitation, Batman, Inc. #2 will feature Batman and Mr. Unknown (“The Batman of Japan”) teaming up to battle against Lord Death Man, and today at ComicsAlliance, I’m explaining exactly why that’s awesome!

Not only am I taking a look at Jiro Kuwata’s story from Bat-Manga, but I’ve also got a side-by-side comparison with LDM’s original appearance — a 1966 story by Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff that Kuwata adapted for his. To me, it’s pretty interesting to see how two vastly different styles took on the same story, so check it out!

Ask Chris #25: Batman’s Worst Costume

It’s the 25th installment of Ask Chris, and while I’d originally planned on doing something special for it, I ended up pretty much doing what I always do: taking a simple question about Batman and going off on a tangent for like a million words. Enjoy!

If you’ve got a question you’d like to see me answer, put it on Twitter with the tag #AskChris or send an email to comicsalliance at gmail.com with the subject line [Ask Chris]!

The 5 Best Animated Gifs From The Amazing Adventures of Little Batman

Those of you who follow me on Twitter have probably caught onto the fact that generally speaking, I do two posts a day over at ComicsAlliance, with the early one usually being a feature and the later one being a shorter post. A lot of times, I don’t link to the second one because usually it’d just be me going “hey, here is a neat thing,” and, well, I’m already on Twitter.

This time, however, you guys need to go over there and experience The Amazing Adventures of Little Batman, a thirty-minute Batman ’66 fan-film starring a cast of adorable (and hilarious) children, featuring the Riddler FREAKING OUT.

Also, just so you know, in that one gif, the Penguin’s shouting “My GOONS!

Brave and the Bold on Wii: You Had Me at “Batman’s Laser Sword”

Today at ComicsAlliance, I’ve got a review of the Brave and the Bold game on Wii that’s about as extensive as you can get when you’re dealing with a side-scrolling beat-’em-up.

One thing that struck me about it that I didn’t mention in the article is that this is totally the kind of game I would’ve gone over to a friend’s house to play, and the fact that anyone who owns this game would always want to be Batman would’ve meant the destruction of a childhood friendship. And I think that’s the kind of gaming experience Batman would want.

Double-Batmans! WHAT DOES IT MEEEEEAN!

As some of you may have already guessed, ComicsAlliance is basically just an elaborate cover for David Uzumeri and I to try to out-nerd each other about Batman, and today, I’ve got my latest effort to top him: an analysis of the news that there are going to be two Batmen, 1600ish words examining the history of Bat-imposters and ersatz caped crusaders and what impact this is going to have on the story Grant Morrison’s been threading through his run since JLA.

As is the case with most things like this, it started as me jokingly suggesting the above title as a headline for the article, but it turned out to be a question that Laura Hudson thought people might actually want to know. Thus, the Internet’s Foremost Batmanologist is back in session.

So while the Brand Ecch news sites may have just reposted the press release and Yannick Paquette’s (friggin’ amazing) preview page, we went the extra mile! So until Caleb Goellner goes with loose fit jeans, Make Yours ComicsAlliance!

Uh, sorry. I’ve been reading a lot of ’60s Fantastic Four lately.
