Friday Night Fights: WHOOOOPH!

OPP? More like WUMP, THERE IT IS!

From Rampaging Hulk #5, which is pretty much just Namor and the Hulk punching things and then punching each other for the entirety of a “book-length epic” by Doug Moench and Kieth Pollard–hey, is anybody else getting deja vu?

So, was Hulk styling and profiling when Namor gave him that gut punch? Would you say Namor had hands of stone? Does Hulk play Ricky Morton at any point in this comic? Was there a Dusty finish? Did they fight on a midnight express?

  2. vanhelsin says:

Well, Hulk learned that to be the man, you’ve got to get beat by the fish man, and that Namor Space Mountain may be one of the oldest heroes in the Marvel Universe, but he’s got the longest line. Whooo!!

  3. Brad Curran says:

I just hope no one pulled out a magnum… TA. And that is all of the ’80s NWA references I can muster.

  4. Brad Curran says:

Well, I could maybe eke one out about War Games, but I think I probably went too far with the Magnum TA joke.

  5. Jeff says:

Wump? A mighty punch like that, and all it does is wump?

    Man, wrasslin is so fake.

  6. Chris says:

Namor is the tower of power and too sweet to be sour.

  7. Tim C says:

Folding the Hulk up like a love letter! Every once in a while, Mr. Mackenzie can still impress. He’s all like: “That’s Timely-style, son! That’s the punch in the breadbasket that beat Tojo!”

  8. Cole says:

I’ll jump to the assumption that you’ve seen Watchmen already? I was dissappointed. The entire ending was completely raped. Also, I think somewhere down the road, they forgot about Hollis Mason.

  9. Tim C says:

Dude, kinda harshing my Namor buzz…I mean, you’ve gotta do your thing, but they usually only write him as some douchebag who just tries to sleep with other guys’ girlfriends, so I like it when he does cool stuff…

    Nope.

  11. Furu says:

    I uh

    um

Crap, got to think of a wrestling reference to fit in with the rest of the comments.

    S..snap…into a slim jim?

    Oh yeaaah?

  12. Adler says:

Aw yeah, Namor! Just look at those goddamn manly knees. Just look at them. Goddamn. He can sub MY mariner any time, if you know what I mean and I think that you do.

  13. Metz77 says:

Cole: Under the Hood is going to be in the special features of the DVD release, along with Tales of the Black Freighter.

  15. Cole says:

Still… The ending… It made me a bit sad. I know that Under the Hood is going to be on the DVD, but…they didn’t even
    (SPOILER)
show Hollis’s death! It was like he didn’t even matter.

  16. Danicus (Spamicus) says:

All I have to say about the Watchmen movie is that if I’d never read the source material, I’d probably have thought it was AMAZING.

  17. Adler says:

So pretend he didn’t die, Cole. Maybe he hopped on a plane to visit Sally J. at the last minute, eh?

Also, the end of the film had the same theme as the end of the book, as far as I can see. And that’s all I’m going to say about Watchmen on a non-Watchmen post, it seems kind of rude to go on about it.

  18. Mike @ MHH says:

Why the hell are you nerfing a Hulk vs. Namor thread with you’re incessant need to blather about how YOU PERSONALLY were disappointed with a completely unrelated comic book movie? Go navel gaze and leave merman-vs-radioactive mutant slug-fest love to the real men…
