  1. So Chris, any thoughts pertaining to the amount of metal the new Warlord series may or may not have?

  2. You know, when I started reading Showcase Presents Warlord, I thought that it was so over-the-top as to be silly–it’s just a collection of every pulp sci-fi and fantasy trope from “hollow earth” to “lost Atlantean super-science” to “reincarnation”, all thrown into a blender and poured out onto the page in one long stream-of-consciousness story.

Then about halfway through, I realized that was the point. :)

(Oh, and Mike Grell’s artwork in black and white? Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammm. Every bit as good as Gene Colan’s on Tomb of Dracula.)

  3. I haven’t picked this up yet (it is on my short list of things to get… maybe with this week’s order) and I ignored the series as it was coming out. And I still hope that DC follows through with more volumes.

There just aren’t enough collections of the fun bronze age stuff that DC did. I want them to keep going with the rest.

  4. His some is awesome!

I can’t decide if those are the goofiest lines ever written or the best. Although actually, they do kind of sound like something Chuck D would rap.

MY REACTION IS ACTION! CAN A BLACK GET SATISFACTION?!

MY RAGE IS OUTRAGE! SO I TOOK A PEN AND PAD AND PUT THESE RHYMES ON A PAGE!

    Best lines it is, then.

  5. One of the beautiful things about quantum physics for me is the fact that somewhere out there is a parallel Earth in which Yakuza gangsters are covered with tattoos that look like Mike Grell artwork.

  6. So I take it from your alt-text that there IS a character with a helmet decked out in wings, snakes, lightning bolts, and flames? Should I pay more attention to the Amazon ads along the margins?

  7. His legend is written in blood and fire, but in the alt text it’s pancakes and syrup.

  8. Hey Chris, this is just another random huge fan, but I was wondering what that awesome sounding series of Vampire books you guys were talking about on War Rocket Ajax a couple weeks back are called. Thanks man, and keep up the awesome work.

  9. I still have my original run (including the 1st Issue Special debut), a very fun series. Classic Grell that would be played out later in StarSlayer.

The Starlin OMAC run as a back-up was fun too.

Its actually too bad the Bruce Jones and Bart Sears run didn’t take off…good combo on the surface.

  10. Unlike Homer, he did not wait for Krusty to tell him to burn them; he took the initiative. Also; Warlord was in Justice League Unlimited. That strikes me as odd now. Then again, so were Silent Knight and B’Wanna Beast.

I think you’re referring to the Diogenes Club books, the first of which is Anno Dracula.

  12. Dude, tell me something I don’t already know. Warlord frickin’ rules. The new series is still building steam, but I see potential there. I say pick it up and have a look.

  13. My drummer ordered the full `true metal / false metal’ catalogue style list that man-o-war put out. We read it with great levels of amusement (but general head nodding agreement too) but now I’ve realised how much better it’d be if they listed things other than other bands and whether they were true metal (like warlord) or false metal (like, i dunno Crystal Warrior or something). I’d better let them know.
