War Rocket Ajax #15: Historically Speaking with Cherie Priest

War Rocket Ajax returns from our Thanksgiving hiatus with a new episode where Euge and I chat with author and comics fan Cherie Priest! During our interview, we talk about her latest novel, Boneshaker, why there shouldn’t be rules in steampunk, and the very fine line that separates urban exploration from felony B&E.

Also, some of you might’ve noticed that this is the first episode since the first one that doesn’t have art by the inimitable Rusty Shackles, and at the top of this week’s show, I’ve got a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT explaining why!

Plus we’ve got comics reviews for that dark week where I took Thanksgiving off, a response to another piece of listener mail, and another installment of the Internet’s #1 Hater Forum that I find inordinately amusing!

So head over to WarRocketAjax.com to give it a listen, or catch it on iTunes tonight!

  1. Holy crap, that’s awesome news! I needed something to make me start reading Resurrection again, and that’ll do it.

  2. I can tell what it must be even before I get the chance to listen that Rusty’s enemies have finally caught up with him. I knew nothing good would come of him revealing his real name a few podcasts back. If only he’d learned from Spidey’s example. Can a deal with Mephisto be far behind?

  3. Stunning, and the book sounds great. I’ll have to look for it.

(It is weird that “steampunk” is now a subculture as well as an aesthetic.)

  4. My fiancee predicted that steampunk would make it this far, also. I’m just waiting for some fantastic steampunk music to break out and go mainstream. Not that I’ve heard anything that good yet, but…

  5. What the fuck, is the once great war rocket ajax just an excuse for you to tell us about awesome comic back-ups you’ll be writing for an already great book for an awesome comics company now? Talk about selling out.

I’m disgusted with congratulations for you both.

  6. Have you thought of talking with Jason Henderson? He’s a Dallas guy who did Sword of Dracula. He’s got a new book coming where the bad guy is a vampire Lord Byron.

As soon as I heard that, I thought of this place. (Not a paid endorsement – but I am open to offers)

  7. If the back up strip is an 8-pager, you’ll hopefully have Rusty back with WRA next week for a fleeting visit before his next gig – plenty of opportunity to break his legs so he has to stay. It’s the only sensible course of action left to you at this stage.

  8. umm…thanks Joseph? Thanks for the congrats guys, seems like not that long ago I was a just a contest-winner on this here site and here I am, so it’s been great to get where we are! The plan is for me to do a piece for the Xmas special of WRA, who may be the Final Boss…

  9. This is great news. Congratulations, all. Well done. Though if Rusty were to backtrack and do some Cherie Priest art at some distant-not-so-busy point in the future, I think we’d all be supportive of that too. It’s a treat seeing what he comes up with, and the guests seem to enjoy it too.

  10. i need to start downloading these… im like four episodes behind. dammit all.
