Is this or is this not the greatest sound effect ever:
To find out where that bit of joy comes from, the whole story behind Batman’s ill-fated date with a beauty queen and the harrowing true story of my childhood obsession with Bewitched, cruise on over to Prism Comics for my latest column:
In which the Women of Gotham City try to corral the Justice League’s Most Eligible Bachelor, and it Does Not End Well.
” the greatest sound effect in the history of DC comics”
is this to imply that there is a different greatest sound effect in the history of Marvel? Dark Horse? Avatar, even?
Which sound effect comes out on top in the battle royale?
The greatest sound effect from Marvel in recent memory was “Krakkaba Throoom”, when the Hulk hit Iron Douche so hard he broke the sound barrier.
Is that sound reverberating in anyone else’s head right now?
Kinda like Batchung-ung-ung-ung-ung!?
I also like BRAKKA-KRAKKA-BA-DOOM!!! courtesy of a particularly impressive explosion in Ultimate X-men a while back.
Marvel seems to like to say ‘krakka’.
Everybody have fun tonight.
Everybody batchung tonight.
Batchung singin’ in the dead of night…
take this broken jaw, and learn not to fuck with Batman…
“Batchung” is good, but nothing tops Walt Simonson’s sound effects. You can spend a good half hour with an old issue of Thor trying to figure out how something like “SHURRACKTKRACKITKROOM” actually sounds.
Man, that panel with Strack watching Batman on his TV just cries out for a romance comics thought balloon.
When I met (and subsequently freaked out over) John Workman at HeroesCon last year, I asked him to put a big “KRAKADOOM!” in my sketchbook.
He did, and it is awesome.
Law and Order: Batman Victims Unit
I think my favorite is that it’s a bat-sound effect caused by a bat-arang. That’s a sign of a writer who knows his audience.
Robin threw that Batarang at, like, point blank range. I wonder if that’s what adds the “bat-” the the “chung”…
“BATCHUNG”??
Seriously now, did Don Martin write any Batman episodes?

That could very well be the best thing ever.
