ComicsAlliance vs. CNN!

Today at ComicsAlliance, the CA Staff–me, Laura Hudson and Caleb Goellner–catch up with an article from the Worldwide Leader In News that breaks the shocking story that–and sit down, because you’re not going to believe this–they can make movies… out of comic books.

It’s hard to believe, I know, but not as hard to believe as the fact that a major news outlet is still trotting out the same “Comics aren’t just for nerds in their moms’ basements!” stories that they’ve been running for decades, although to their credit, they did leave “Biff! Pow!” out of the headline. That, I think, will be the true legacy of The Dark Knight, although I look forward to the eventual turnaround of “Why So Serious? Comics Aren’t Just For Grown-Ups!”

In any case, we took the most mature, rational course of action by reposting bits of the article and adding commentary that makes fun of just about everything in it.

Here’s my favorite bit, from Caleb:

CG: I think the real takeaway message here is that a glowing blue penis doesn’t appeal to the all-ages crowd as much as a spindly hero who happens to dress kind of like a luchadore.

Truer words, my friend.

  1. Wait – CNN.com. Aren’t they a fake news site like the Onion, only the humor is all unintentional and you’re actually laughing at them instead of with them?

About a month ago they had a story on the site about how fans of the movie “Avatar” were depressed after seeing the movie because real life wasn’t more like “Avatar”. A link was being batted around various blogs and other sites that I read. If you actually read the story, and not just the headline and the lede paragraph, you’d see that almost the entirety of the story was sourced from a single Avatar fan-forum thread. They added a quote from a psychologist to make it look like the article was something other than the writer having a deadline and utterly NO ideas for something to write about, but that’s all it was.

CNN.com – not as funny as the Onion, but almost as informative.

  2. Breeanna Hare is the crack analyst who told the world Jimmy Fallon was a natural to host The Tonight Show when Leno finally keels over with his cold hands clasping the desk in a death grip. Why Fallon? Well, he currently hosts Late Night, of course! And the host of Late Night always gets to take over The Tonight Show, right? Just ask the last two!

  3. A bit cheap, as you all clearly put more thought into a filler article than CNN did. But you raised some good points: mostly that Rich Johnstone should learn to shut up.

  4. The article was oddly reminiscent of MST3K, I.E. absolutely friggan awesome.

CNN’s article however was only slightly less hilarious on it’s own.

  5. The internet lives and breathes by the hatred of it’s users. Don’t you know this?!

  6. Chris Sims just jumping light punch jumping medium punch, jumping light kick, jumping hard punch (while holding up), into Proton Cannon after a Laura Hudson anti-air assist of hilarity.

Caleb did his job well of being the joke third character to try to throw off CNN’s game.

  7. I would have picked War Machine for CA. The low shoulder cannon is a lot easier to hit CNN with for chip damage.
