IDW’s Dungeons & Dragons Comic Is Amazing. Seriously.

Today at ComicsAlliance, I’ve written up a review of why John Rogers and Andrea Di Vito’s Dungeons & Dragons comic is seriously one of the best adventure stories on the stands today. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it has a lot to do with panels like the ones above.

If you haven’t read it, give it a shot — the the hardcover of the first arc is solicited this month, and the second story kicks off today. It’s seriously great, and well worth the $15 on Amazon or DCBS.

  1. Very well written review. I also enjoy this book as well as the Dark Sun one, which is maybe moving a bit slower. I’ve read two issues so far and would like to know what’s gonna happen next so maybe this is just the right pacing to keep me interested.

Anyway: you seem to be missing out on the very best of the best in RPG related comics, Kenzer Cos Knights of the Dinner Table. Go for the trades and skip the game related clutter in the magazine though, check out one of the Bundles of Trouble.

  2. I’m hearing so many possitive reviews of this comic that I’m seriously going to have to break down and get the trades when they’re released (attempting to buy a comic monthly in the UK is a bit pointless when you work and dont have a local comic shop…), then I can leave them scattered around friends houses and hopefully they’ll be inspired enough to take up the dice once more and match steel and spell against the DM!

(Probably not though, goddamn summer getting in the way of roleplay… mumble mumble….. Maybe I’d be better off just reading the comic and accepting reality lol)

  3. Buying the hardcover now. If it hadn’t been for your review, wouldn’t have touched this with a 10-foot pole.

  4. Kudos to the team behind this comic, because it makes it look like the current incarnation of D&D is fun. It obviously isn’t (mark my words) but, again, you wouldn’t know it by enjoying Rogers and Di Vito’s work.

  5. I’m loving this series. I was a huge fan (after it was cancelled unfortuneatly) of Roger’s Blue Beetle. Based on his writing I picked up the Dungeons and Dragons comic. I love the humor. The interplay between characters reminds me of Firefly.

All I can say is, my gaming group and I had hella fun with the current incarnation of D&D.

  7. “Murder factory for magic murder tools filed with murder traps made by insane dwarven murderers” describes just about every game of Dwarf Fortress I’ve ever played….
