1977′s Mighty Marvel Superheroes Cookbook, Featuring a Recipe For a Sandwich

the 1970s were a very strange time for comic book tie ins, and there are very few that are stranger than The Mighty Marvel Superheroes Cookbook, in which Spider-Man & Co. straight up phone it in with recipes on how to make sandwiches and suggestions for how to decorate your pancakes, before moving on to a (quite literally) unhealthy obsession with “meat spreads.”

So put on your chef hat and/or domino mask and come with me through the extremely bizarre excesses of cooking in the ’70s!

  1. I dunno about the rest of the book, but I’d love to read a story about that fishing trip in the last picture.

  2. **Amazing** Spidey’s Chocolate Web Pancakes

Prepare pancake batter according to the instructions in the package. Add 1/4 cup of strawberry-flavored gelatin powder and two Tbsps. of red food coloring to the batter. Mix well. Pour colored batter into pre-heated and pre-buttered griddle. Brown on both sides. When done, stack red pancakes on (preferably blue) serving plate and form a web by crossing with liquid chocolate syrup across the top. Cut a manageable piece with a fork, and use the fork from the previous step to put it in your mouth. Enjoy.
