The ComicsAlliance Summer Movie Roundup

On the off chance that you didn’t get enough of me bitching about movies in this week’s installment of Remedial Batmanology, you’re in for a treat: Today, I’ve written up my thoughts on this summer’s upcoming comic book movies!

And even better, Laura gave me free reign to just go ahead and write whatever I want, which means that I decided to keep myself interested by ranking the movies on a unit of measurement I invented — a replacement for the ISB’s venerable Sonny Hooper scale — known as The Statham. Believe it.

  1. i am just SO DAMN JAZZED for Captain America. Fingers crossed for a Normandy scene like in issue 1 of The Ultimates.

  2. Okay, I’m still a bit confused on one point:

The gorilla that thinks he’s a wizard. Does he think that because he’s delusional or because he can actually do magic?

  3. I love a good nostalgia-fueled period film; and Joe Johnston, the director of Captain America, also did The Rocketeer. (And October Sky.)

    So, looking good.

(Will you give it 0.9 Stathams if Cap punches Hitler in the face?)

  4. I saw X-Men: First Class last night*, and it was fantastic. Right up there with X-Men 2 in terms of quality. My only (tiny) complaint is that the references to Prof. X losing his hair were slightly forced, but otherwise I just hope we’re going to get a sequel. Great stuff.

    * Seriously, is Europe getting all the superhero movies first this year? Not that I’m complaining mind you…

  5. Oh, and the trailer for Green Lantern they showed last night actually made me quite excited for it. Not saying it will be good, but I now actually want to see it, rather than being quietly resigned to being dragged along by some friends.
