Wrestler Wisdom Fridays #4

Each week, the ISB endeavors to enlighten our readers by offering the unedited words of the Warrior Scholars of the squared circle, for who among us cannot benefit from the wisdom of Macho Madness, Hulkamania, or the American Dream? The instruction we offer should be considered carefully, meditated on, and applied to one’s own life for the enrichment of the self and others.

  1. This is the best one since El Santo.

After hearing your secret past on the last WRA, I now realize these Friday posts are just a return to your html roots. That’s touching, and I’m not kidding.

  2. And here I was thinking modern wrestling was culturally insensitive, what with Ray Mysterio’s mask and giant “MEXICO” tattoo.

Even so, I made myself watch all two hours of Smackdown! last night. Therefore I can say with no hint of irony that I really do miss the culturally insensitive days of the Iron Sheik. At least back then everyone was uniquely entertaining, instead of all of them looking like Avenged Sevenfold on ‘roids.

So what I’m saying is that this Wrestler Wisdom post makes me happy, yet also makes me very, very sad.

  3. FUCK Hulk Hogan. FUCK Batman. IRAN NUMBER ONE.

I Take Hogan, brek his back and make him humble. I fuck Batman in the ass make him humble.

    HOCK PTOOEY

  4. I’m from Boston and I reject this word salad. Take it back to the waiter, Sheik, I don’t know exacly what’s going on here or what language it’s in, but it makes me feel like ROXBURY WILL FUCK YO SHIT UP

  5. *ticks Iron Sheik wisdom box on page*
That’s it! Perfect Saturday! Can anyone truly say they DON’T miss the days of the Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff getting all up in Gene Mean’s face? There are not enough suplex masters in the world today…

  6. BTW, I used to laugh out loud at the “Hhhhello Gene Mean!” camledrivers accent. Hilarious stuff, especially with Mean Gene Okerlund’s deadpan microphone face.

  7. “And here I was thinking modern wrestling was culturally insensitive, what with Ray Mysterio’s mask and giant “MEXICO” tattoo.”

Yeah, how dare Rey highlight his ethnicity or his family legacy as luchadors…

  8. That is an odd choice, when you consider just how many instances of cultural insensitivity wrestling today can ACTUALL offer. Why pick on portraying Abdul Bashir as a terrorist when you can point out Rey… doing the same act he’s been doing since he was a teenager in Mexico. Err, oops.

  9. BAH, this one’s fish in a barrel.

And I got an e-mail suggesting I PVR Friday’s Smackdown, and holy fuzzballs was that a fun show. Once a month, Vince doesn’t show up at the Smackdown tapings or something and suddenly there’s three or four awesome matches just for the hell of it.

That said, I could not watch wrestling all year and still be excited for the Rumble tonight. Some things just never lose their appeal, even if I only know half the roster anymore.
