For Those Of You Who Were Wondering…

“Hix Hox Hex” is an incantation that appears in Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane #1–handily reprinted in the pages of Showcase Presents: Superman Family v.2–and it’s my phrase of choice when discussing the supernatural and/or having a conversation with Ragnell.

And now you know… the rest of the story.

  1. If I were Lois, I’d look at the upside of being a witch for seven years. I mean Superman, who she endlessly pines over and tries to trick into marriage is susceptible to magic! Sure you’re an uggo every night for seven years, but you’d have your man. That’s a pretty good trade off I think. (I know that is not really related, but I needed to have a bit of geek rant.)

  2. I’m glad to see you’ve stopped listening to The Eagles; what do you think of the new DOOM? I’m disappointed, and not just because of the bizarre homophobic rant that outs Batman and Robin. Too often it sounds like he’s repeating stuff he’s done before and none of his wordplay’s as memorable as it was on The Mouse And The Mask.

  3. PS

What is Superman’s arm doing in Panel 1? Making rabbit ears behind Lois’ head?

  4. It’s not a very good curse, is it? I mean, once you’re a witch, you can just cast a spell to break the curse.

People in the olden days were stupid.

  5. I like to think that Lois used this power on the ISB yesterday, because that was REALLY bizarre. But the outfit in panel one? They dressed her that way! That’s not even her real nose, it’s a false one.

Superman will bend the laws of physics so that Lois weighs the same as a duck, and another crazy-ass Silver Age comic story comes to a successful conclusion.

  6. Where does that first scene take place? Did Lois’ desk at the Daily Planet have a candle on it for some reason, or did Lois’ desk at home have a nameplate that said, “Lois Lane – Reporter” for some equally bizarre reason?

  7. I’m glad to see you’ve stopped listening to The Eagles

That would imply that I ever started listening to the Eagles.

what do you think of the new DOOM?

    I like it!

  8. Rich at #12: I’m sure there was a “strip” involved, but I’m not sure it was of the comic variety.

At least I know I haven’t been dateless long enough to find Witchy Lois there attractive. The fact that I took more than one look at Boo Cat, though, scares me. And I’m a sci-fi fan, so I should be able to deal with that.

Clackety-Clack-Clack: I think you need to use that magic to fix your typewriter, Lois. It’s a bit loud. And off key.

  9. Ew! That witch is so ugly! Can you go back to writing about Tarot please? Good looking witches are empowering! Ugly witches- depowering. And she’s not even naked.
