War Rocket Ajax #53: The Blow Gene Wilder Hour with James Urbaniak!

This week, War Rocket Ajax welcomes our first ever actor to the show, as Matt and I sit down with James Urbaniak, the voice of TV’s Doctor Venture! As you might expect, we’re both huge fans, and while we do resist the urge to ask him to call us Hank and Dean, we do flip out about how much we love the show. Also, we chat a bit about his network of Hollywood pals, an upcoming project with Maria Bamford, and his undeniable love of Gene Wilder.

Plus, in the part of the show that nobody’s going to care about, Matt and I review comics, talk about Jeopardy! (and why Wheel of Fortune is bullshit), read a letter from someone citing the inaccuracy of our theme song, and debut a brand new theme song from Euge!

It’s streaming now at the site, and should be up on iTunes later tonight. Enjoy, won’t you?

War Rocket Ajax #52: The Guy That Gets The Coffee with Nick Spencer

This week, we’ve (mostly) shaken off the radio rust, and War Rocket Ajax blasts back with a brand new episode featuring writer Nick Spencer! Matt and I sit down with one of the past year’s breakout stars to talk about Morning Glories, his love of The Prisoner, and how he recently made headlines on the comics news circuit.

Also, there may be some discussion of one Jimmy Olsen. For like an hour.

In fact, there’s one moment in the recording where the conversation finally moves away from Jimmy and on to Morning Glories where it sounds like I’m letting out the heaviest sigh of all time at no longer being able to talk about Superman’s pal, but I swear this is actually just me coughing. Also, you’ll hear a little about this year’s convention plans, discussion of last week’s comics, a review of my recent music purchases, and the return of “What’s Pissing You Off This Week, Chris?”, in which I unironically use the term “shame on you.”

War Rocket Ajax #51: Got a Switch with Chris Roberson

This week, War Rocket Ajax returns for 2011 (or as we like to call it, The One-One) with an episode where Matt and I sit down with Chris Roberson, writer of iZombie, Starborn, and a relatively obscure character you might’ve heard of called Superman.

Join us as we talk about Roberson’s influences, give props to the amazing novels by Elliot S! Maggin, and discuss what a creator does after he checks off his bucket list.

Plus, Matt and I go through the usual by recommending a few video games, announce plans for the New Year, and go through the list of favorite moments sent in by our listeners. Surprisingly, you all like the same thing.

The episode’s up now to stream, but feel free to leave us an iTunes review or send us an email at warrocketpodcast at gmail.com!

War Rocket Ajax #50! The 2010 Christmas Spectacular! A ChrisSims Carol with Matt Fraction!

All right, Ajax fans, this is the big one: Not only is this the last episode of 2010, and not only is it our annual Christmas special, but it’s our 50th episode! And to celebrate, our very first guest ever, comics superstar Matt Fraction returns for his third appearance on the show to talk to us about his recent trip to Singapore, Grant Morrison’s Batman, his techniques for discovering inappropriate pictures of Santa Claus and the difficulties of writing 20 minutes in the future.

But that’s not all! In lieu of our regular show, this year, we present to you a Christmas Story in which I am entreated to embrace my haters, A ChrisSims Carol! This isn’t quite the lunatic variety special that had Euge and I recording every night for a whole month last year to pull off (with varying degrees of success), but it is a (somewhat) coherent narrative with a whole gang of special guests, including Euge, Evie & Aaron, Smithy, and no less than two Maxes! Plus, you’ll hear the annual Ajax present-opening, as Matt and I participate in a gift exchange of O. Henryan proportions (along with a pair of presents for Evie & Aaron too) and Christmas wishes from the entire cast.

We’re proud of it, and thank you guys for listening to me goof off on Skype for a couple hours every week. Merry Christmas!

War Rocket Ajax #49: More Than a Feeling with Evan “Funk” Davies

This week on War Rocket Ajax, we do something we’ve never been done before: Interview a guest who has absolutely nothing to do with comics. That’s right, Matt and I sit down to chat with Evan “Funk” Davies, DJ for the freeform pride of New Jersey, WFMU!

If you’re a regular listener to the show, you’ll know that we’re big fans of WFMU, and Evan’s one of our favorites — Euge even did the theme song for his show — so it was a blast for us to chat with him about music, the unbelievably shocking origin of his nickname, and catalogued the absolute worst songs he’s ever played.

But for fans of comics, don’t worry! We talk about them too, as well as our usual discussion of video games, the return of “What’s Pissing You Off This Week, Chris?” and a special Big Up to a hater whose name rhymes with “Chris Haley!”

The show is available right now to download stream at the link above, and the iTunes feed will update later tonight!

But! That’s not all: Our next show is a special one, as we hit the big Five-Oh just in time for Christmas! It might not be as monumentally insane as last year’s Christmas special, but it should be a good one, as we’re bringing back a superstar from our past. So how can you get in? Simple: Just email warrocketpodcast at gmail.com with your favorite moment from the last 50 shows. We’ll read a few on the air, reminisce, all that good stuff. Be there!

War Rocket Ajax #48: Meet The New Guy

War Rocket Ajax is back — or at least, I am. Euge has moved on to putting the rap game in a chokehold with his first Adam Warrock World Tour, which means I have a brand new co-host who does all the work while I talk!

In this week’s episode, you’ll get to meet the new guy as we discuss Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Superman #705, the new era of Batman, and the first ever video game product sent to me for review, the Snakebyte Wii Remote with Built-In Motion Plus!

We also take some time to get to know each other with a string of listener questions and, in a touching moment, I actually call Euge on the phone and wake him up from a sound sleep, all for your listener enjoyment.

Enjoy it, everybody!

War Rocket Ajax #47: Podcast To Restore Sanity with Matt Wilson

This week, War Rocket Ajax goes into full-on bro-down mode as Euge and I sit down with our pal Matt Wilson to talk comics, politics, stripperrs, and our plan to rock the 12th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos!

Yes, really.

You’ll hear Matt and Euge discuss their experiences at the recent Daily Show/Colbert Report Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear, while I offer my own travelogue about my experiences at Myrtle Beach’s X-Con (sadly without revealing that I roped Awesome Hospital co-writer Chad Bowers into going to MagiQuest with me)! Plus, we commemorate the end of both Spider-Man’s “Brand New Day” and Grant Morrison’s run on Batman and Robin, and then take on a truly amazing array of listener questions.

Enjoy it, folks! And if you haven’t already, write us up an iTunes review or leave some comments to let us know how much you like us. Not liking us is not an option.
