  1. I’m having a friend type this because my hands will never stop making the metal sign again!!

    Dictated not read.

  2. HOW? HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MYSELF FOR ROM WEEK?

SHOULD I CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE HIGHEST BUILDING AND FLING MYSELF OFF OF IT?

SHOULD I LIE ON THE LAWN AND LET THEM RUN OVER ME WITH LAWNMOWERS?

SHOULD I GO TO AFRICA AND LET RAGING ELEPHANTS TRAMPLE ME?

SHOULD I SIT AT MY DESK AND JUST WAIT FOR YOU TO TELL ME WHEN YOU’VE UPDATED?

  3. Aw man, I wish I had a ROM figure. To sell on EBay. Prices are gonna SPIKE because of this!

  4. Once again I am blinded by “the brightest new star in the Marvel firmament”… I can hear some ominous rustlings from the depths of a comics box in our spare room – the Spaceknights are restless…

  5. Man I had a bad night last night and I checked the ISB to brighten my day. . . BLESS YOU ROM!! I will warn all of those you purchase coffee this morning at work. I’ll be the hearld of ROM.

  6. YAY! However, I have a friend staying over most of this week. Am I being a bad host if I spend the entire time sitting with my laptop hammering Refresh? Oh, stuff it – let her suffer. IT’S ROM WEEK!

  7. In commemoration of this most momentous of weeks, I feel that Hasbro should begin production of an all-Spaceknight wave of Marvel Legends. They dropped the ball with the Silver Surfer. They CANNOT afford to miss this.

God bless both ROM and The Thrill! Let the brain-sucking limbo-banishing Wraith-smacking wonderment flow!

  8. 20th August 2007. A date that will go down in history as the most awesome day in comics blogging ever.

    I AM FREAKING OUT!

  9. Chris,

I have a scan of that British ROM mini-comic ad that was brought up in a previous ISB ROM-comment archive.

I will email it to you if you wish it.
But I won’t send an unsolicited email with an attachment.

Reply here (or to my email address) and I will send.

  10. Oh!

    I just re-read the entry.

    You’re starting ROM-week with Marvel 2-in-1 # 99?

    That’s an interesting choice.

I can NOT wait to FREAK. OUT!
    SPACEKNIGHT-STYLE!

  11. Finally, the time bespoken of only in whispers has arrived. New gods walk the earth. The old is swept away, leaving only the Unending Kingdom of Awesome in its wake.

  12. NOOOOOOOOO!

I finised my ROM collection 2 months ago. I was a ROMaholic for the past 7 years gathering up what issues I could here and there in order to piece together the ultimate ROM collection.

I thought I was safe. I thought I was out.

But you brought me back in Sims.

Now I’m gonna have to bust out my home made -Neutralizer-.

  13. My colleague, Prof. R. T. Farnsworth, asks whether your ROM thesis will touch on the little-known column that ran in PARADE Magazine between 1986 and 1988, Cooking With ROM.

We in the academic community look forward to your thesis. Rock on.

    Wraith-free since 1983! Go-go, Purdue!

  14. bookrats–
Having received my Ph.D. from Purdue University’s English Department, I regret not having the opportunity to study under such prestigious faculty as Clarence C. Liddemore and R. T. Farnsworth. My dissertation, “The Enemy Within: ROM and the Dire Wraiths as Metaphors for Reagan’s America,” would have probably been much improved by their input.

I chose that particular institution, however, for its promise of a Wraith-free learning experience.

  15. USA Today’s Pop Candy blog linked to the “Top 5 Fictional Mayors” piece you wrote for Cracked. You are having quite the week, aren’t you, Sims?

  16. To this day, I wish Bill Mantlo had penned an issue where Rom went into the Microverse. Could you imagine Rom and Acroyear delivering punches to the face on the bad guys?

    Ah, well.

  17. P-TOR: I’m English, and I very vaguely remember the mini-ad comic for Rom. Where did it run?

  18. Seth,

I understand it ran in some issues of 2000A.D. back in the 70’s when the toy was released.

However, I don’t have the issues in question.

I don’t recall WHERE I found the scan.
It was during a big push to complete my ROM-centric collection.

I always had all the comic issues (and guest appearances, as well as the actual “action figure”, but at the time I was looking for any and all other media appearances of ROM.

I found an old issue of TIME that had an article and other stuff. This UK scan was one such item I stumbled across.

I’m sure SIMS will show it.

  19. Being that ROM #15 is the greatest cover to a comic EVER CREATED I hope to see it this week.

  20. It’s a sad week for the rest of us webmasters. Just like we all sit at the bottom of a gravity well that we must struggle to fight our way free from, so Sims has opened up an awesome well here that anything else will pale in coolness by comparison.

It’s time to activate the Chris Sims Revenge Squad! You’ll rue the day!!

  21. P-TOR: thanks everso. I’d have guessed 2000 AD – rather than, say, the ostensibly more logical Marvel UK reprint books – and I must have those issues deep in a box somewhere… next time I’m feeling brave I’ll go a-hunting!

  22. What? I meant that Chris was trying to hint to Marvel that he should be on a ROM book. I don’t know what you’re talking about, guy.
