ComicsAlliance Live! At The New York Comic-Con!

If you weren’t at the New York Comic-Con — or if you were and foolishly opted to not attend the ComicsAlliance panel — then don’t worry: The entire thing is now on video for your viewing pleasure, complete with a set of photos taken by our ol’ pal Kevin Church!

I’ll warn you right from the start, guys: I talk a lot in this thing. Since you’re reading this here, which ostensibly means you’re interested in what I have to say, you might not think this is a problem, but man. I ramble on like I’m being paid by the word. I wanted me to shut up, and I’m a huge fan of myself.

Also, I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize for interrupting my “Smallvillains” co-writer David Uzumeri literally every time he tried to say something. Sorry, Uzi!

Also, I am legally bound to apologize to anyone who got a Glo-Ball whipped into their head. I swear, I wasn’t aiming for you, sirs and madam.

Free Comic Book Day!

Sorry folks, the Internet’s Most Unreliable Comics Reviews are taking the week off, as I haven’t made it out to the shop this week. Instead, I’ve been busy preparing for Free Comic Book Day 2010!

“But Chris!” you say. “You don’t work at the store anymore!” And yes, that’s true. Instead, Chad and I will actually be making an in-store appearance from 10 AM to 5 PM! So if you’re anywhere near Columbia, South Carolina, swing by Heroes and Dragons this Saturday to pick up your free comics, and maybe, just maybe, you can get some of these too:

Awesome Hospital Postcards, signed and sketched by me and/or Chad!

Woman of A.C.T.I.O.N. #1!

11″ x 17″ Solomon Stone Prints by Dan McDaid and Tamas Jakab!

And–what’s this–for the first time anywhere…

The Solomon Stone Special, reprinting The Chronicles of Solomon Stone #2!

For Chad and me, this is the kickoff of what we’ve been calling the Action Age Comics Boys Of Summer World Tour 2010, which will culminate in Charlotte at HeroesCon, where we’ll be holding down a table from June 4 to 6 with even more Action Agey Goodness.

And hey, if you’re not in South Carolina but you are near Dayton, Ohio, then you can catch up with a member of Team Action Age at Superfly Comics in Yellow Springs, where Rusty Shackles will be appearing! He’ll have a ton of prints for sale, including versions of some of our Great Comics that Never Happened. And yes, that means LOEG ’88:

And hey, if you’re up in boston, you can stop by Comicopia to see pals Kevin Church and Ming Doyle, the team behind The Loneliest Astronauts, and head to ROFLCon to see a good chunk of my fellow Fake AP Stylebook contributors, including Dr. K of the infamous South of the Border trip.

Even if you’re in neither one of those places, though, it’s still going to be Free Comic Book Day, so get out and show your local shop some support. Most places have big sales (I know my old shop does), so you can take advantage of that while checking out some stuff on the cheapest it can be.

And if you see me, say something! At the very least, it’ll keep me from indulging my rekindled obsession with RPGs. For now.

The Hulked-Out-“Heroes” I Want To See

Today at the Eisner-Nominated ComicsAlliance, I’ve written up a pretty silly post about the characters I’d like to see turned into Hulks for the upcoming Hulked Out Heroes title, and–

What’s that?

Why yes, I did say THE EISNER-NOMINATED COMICSALLIANCE. And I will be saying that every time I mention the site from now until mid-July, when I intend to start going with “The Eisner-Winning ComicsAlliance.” Seriously though, all of us at CA are just thrilled by this news, and Laura really ought to be proud of the site she’s put together, as should the rest of the team. Good job, team!

Awesomed By Chris!

On the off chance that today’s episode of War Rocket Ajax did not meet your daily recommended allowance of hearing me yammer on and on about comics, I guest hosted this week on the Awesomed By Comics Podcast!

As you know if you listen to Ajax, ABC is one of my favorite podcasts, and Evie and Aaron are just ridiculously fun to talk to, so while Evie was off playing Pokemon HeartGold covering South by Southwest, I was thrilled to step into her chair and give out the weekly awards. And by “give out the weekly awards,” I of course mean “tell Aaron how utterly wrong he is about Batman and Robin.” Originally it was supposed to be both me and Euge (as two of us make one Evie), but unfortunately Euge got bogged down in work over the weekend, and as I just really didn’t want to annotate the new Anita Blake, it came down to me.

Euge did, however, have time to record a new track for your listening pleasure as part of his Adam WarRock project, though: a five-minute rap recap of Scott Pilgrim v.1-5 called “I Gotta Believe!”

You’ve probably already heard it–it got twittered by Oni Press, Matt Fraction, Edgar Wright and Bryan Lee O’Malley–but if you haven’t, go check it out. And heck, if you haven’t listened to any of the stuff Euge’s been doing for Adam WarRock, you need to quit sleepin’ on it toute suite.

So there you go: More stuff to listen to, some of which I am tangentially involved in!

I Got Interviewed!

Last night, interviewed by Molly for Battlemouth.com, which was nice because I just don’t think I’ve been promoting myself enough lately.

This was my first interview since becoming a full-time writer, so you’ll thrill as my ego swells to massive proportions when I talk about how I got my start with writing, my comics, the things I do and don’t miss about the old job, and even give a few spoilers for Solomon Stone #2! Enjoy, won’t you?

Resurrection #8 Is Out This Wednesday!

This week, Resurrection #8 hits the shelves, and in addition to Marc Guggenheim and Justin Greenwood’s main story, it’s got an eight-page backup by me, Chad Bowers and Rusty Shackles!

Rusty’s art (and sonorous tones) should be familiar to any War Rocket Ajax listeners, Chad of course is my writing partner and the guy who unleashed Danger Ace and Monster Plus on the world, and I’m… well, if you’re reading this here, you should probably know who I am by now. This isn’t the first time we’ve worked together–Chad and I have done a bunch of stuff that people haven’t seen yet, and the three of us produced an actual full-length first issue of The Hard Ones that you will be seeing eventually–but for Chad and me, it’s our first professional comics work, and it’s Rusty’s return to print after years, so it’s a pretty big deal.

So call your local shop, get out, and support the Action Age’s professional comics debut! And if you want to find out more about Resurrection, you can pick up the first trade for a mere six bucks!

And for those of you here in Sunny South Carolina, Chad and I will be signing on Saturday at Heroes & Dragons from 11 AM to 3 PM. Come out! Say hi! Love us with your money! And let ’em know that you want more!

UPDATE: My pals at ComicsAlliance have put up an exclusive four-page preview for your sampling pleasure. Yes: a four-page preview of an eight-page story. That is just how we roll in the Action Age.
